The City of Benicia is recruiting for the position of Reserve Police Officer. We seek energetic, enthusiastic, and hardworking individuals for our Police Department. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
The Benicia Police Department is a service-oriented agency whose members take pride in their proactive response to crime, disorder, and quality of life issues. This approach recognizes our community's high expectations for professional police services and has sustained a positive relationship with the community for many years.
The Benicia Police Department is staffed with 32 sworn officers, 20 non-sworn employees, and 35 citizen volunteers. The department is led by the Chief of Police and it is organized into three divisions (Operations, Services, & Special Operations). A Lieutenant provides general management direction and control for each division.
Benicia Police Department's Reserve Officer Program predominantly handle assignments in Patrol Operations, but can also work with investigative units, assist with prisoner guarding/ transport, and special events and administrative assignments. Reserve Officers' schedules are flexible with a commitment of approximately 132 hours per year. Reserve Officers participate in regular training that parallels the skill reviews and legal updates that full time Benicia Police Officers receive.

Candidates must meet P.O.S.T. eligibility and requirements to be a Reserve Officer.

Application materials will be carefully evaluated; applicants who document possession of experience and education which most closely meet the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in the next phase of the selection process, which may include an assessment center and interview process.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
