Currently, there are two (2) vacancies in the department.
This recruitment will serve to establish an eligibility list that will be used to fill future vacancies that may occur in the next 12 months.
A Community Services Officer for the Benicia Police Department performs a wide variety of non-sworn technical and administrative law enforcement support services with heavy emphasis on patrol related activities, such as parking enforcement, traffic control, property and evidence.
They also write reports, serve subpoenas, gather, record, maintain, retrieve and distribute law enforcement data and information.

Previous work experience involving public contact and record keeping is required.
High School diploma, or equivalent is required.
LICENSES AND/OR SPECIAL CONDITIONS Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required.
OTHER NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
The nature of the work requires incumbents to work shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and outdoors in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold.
Incumbents are required to wear a uniform and operate motorized vehicles, law enforcement equipment, and working in heavy traffic conditions.
May encounter abusive persons and often work with constant interruptions.
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, jumping, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, climbing, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports and retrieving and entering data using a computer keyboard.
Additionally, the position requires near and far vision, and acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal assistance.
The need to lift, drag, and push files, paper, documents and miscellaneous items weighing up to 50 pounds also is required.
